|Weeks after the 46ct diamond ring stole the show at Christie's jewellery auction in New York, another impressive jewellery piece is picking up the baton in Rossini's upcoming jewellery sale in Paris on Thursday, June 30.|
As diamonds continue to prove themselves as strong assets of collectors' markets, experts are advising that now is a perfect time to invest in diamonds. And it's no unsubstantiated statement. Luc Renneboog and Christophe Spaenjers of Tilburg University in The Netherlands have carried out a market analysis after being granted access to Rocks International's database of 4,000 jewellery auctions. Entitled Hard Assets: The Returns of Hard Diamonds and Gems, their study shows that colourless diamonds have dramatically increased in value over the last 10 years. Moreover, in 2008 diamonds were valued even higher than gold during the first half of the year.
The star lot of the aforementioned auction is a half-size round diamond weighing 7.07 carats, estimated €20,000-25,000 ($35,824) – a perfect option for mid-level investors.
