An Argyle Red diamond remained unsold in a Sotheby’s auction in Sydney, Australia when the diamond, weighing 0.82 carats failed to attract any significant interest.
It was expected that the stone would sell for anything between $700K and $1M but after opening at $480K, bidding only went as far as $490K - however, this figure would still have created a record for jewellery sold in Australia.
The oval shaped stone is set between a pair of brilliant round cut blue diamonds and set in a platinum ring. The fancy red centre stone is of SI1 clarity.
