One of the world’s most famous auction house, Christie’s, is going to hold an auction of the largest private collection of jewellery parures in Dubai at Jumeirah Tower Hotel on October 27th 2010. The word “parure” refers to a set of various items of matching jewellery, traditionally consisting of a pair of earrings, bracelet, ring and necklace. Known as the Christie’s ‘Jewels and Watches: The Dubai Sale’, the auction will showcase 41 examples of parures all signed by Chatila, Jahan and Mouawad. All the suites of jewellery to be auctioned include a total of 2,180 carats of rubies, 1,970 carats of emeralds, 1,630 carats of sapphires and 6,460 carats of diamonds, Christie’s announced.
International Director of Christie’s Jewellery department, David Warren, had this to say: “This is a significant opportunity for anyone who is passionate about jewellery. From Ancient Egypt through to 1950s Hollywood glamour and beyond, the parure provides the ultimate jewellery gift. Whether you wear a single ring or you wear the whole suite, a parure provides flexibility, variety and extravagance to last a lifetime.”
Each of the 41 parures will come with a genuine certificate from its creator. No reservations can be allowed on the lots, and pre-sale estimates range from $40,000 (£25,517) to $450,000 (£287,002).
Back in 2006, Christie’s showcased the Gulf pearl parure, by Harry Winston in Dubai, which fetched a record price of $4.1 million later on in a sale in Geneva.
