Creating a brooch for 25th anniversary of Breast Cancer Care
Diamond Rocks are delighted to have designed a pink ribbon brooch for Breast Cancer Care to mark the 25th anniversary of the Pink Ribbon. Breast Cancer Care is the only specialist charity in the UK that provides care, support and information to anyone affected by breast cancer. One in every eight women in the UK will develop breast cancer and the condition claims almost 12,000 lives every year.
On Thursday 28th September, Breast Cancer Care held their annual fundraising charity ball, The Show London in association with Comfort, which raised over £370,000 for those affected by breast cancer.
Diamond Rocks has created a one-off anniversary ribbon brooch for the charity to celebrate the 25 years of the pink ribbon – a powerful symbol of solidarity for millions affected by the disease. This new take on the classic ribbon pin features 52 brilliant cut diamonds set in an 18-carat rose gold ribbon. It was used as the star prize for the Lock & Key fundraising game played on the night, where the 700 guests each bought a key in the hope that they would be the lucky winner to have the key that opens the box with the brooch inside, and we're pleased to hear that the diamond and rose gold pink ribbon brooch raised £5,945 of the total night's takings. Diamond Rocks founder comments “it affects a lot of people so it’s a good charity to support and although I haven’t had an immediate relative or member of the family who’s had breast cancer, we all know someone who has. We’ve been working with the charity for about three years now, and since then I’ve had more people in my life become affected by it. So, although we were already working for them, it’s only then that you start to realise just how many people are affected by this.”
Asked six months ago to come up with something special, he says “we bounced the design off the team at Breast Cancer Care but we thought that rose gold seemed to be the right colour. The diamonds add a special touch to what is an iconic symbol in the fight against breast cancer.”
It’s the first time Diamond Rocks has created and donated an original, custom piece of jewellery for a cause and for our founder, it was a straightforward choice “with a charity like breast cancer care, it’s so uniquely tied to a logo, it made it easier for us. It’s the first time we’ve done something bespoke and unique for a charity.”
